I remember Bruce Lee once said " No, a ninety pound woman with equal skill could never defeat a 200lb man of equal skill." Looking at some sports upsets like k1's super heavyweights Hong Man Choi angainst a welterweight openened. Nowadays I think some chicks got what it takes to prove that wrong. But then again size and strength can be a deciding factor in equally skilled opponenets. What do you girls think?

Re: What do you think
03/27In aikido we don't fight, spar or compete so its kinda hard to qualify. But we actually have the advantage cuz we have no choice but to get it Right, we can't muscle through a technique. We don't have to unlearn using strenghth.

Re: What do you think
03/28You may as well say a 140 lb man couldn't beat a 200 lb man of equal skill. I really don't understand where gender comes into the equation here: smaller stature and smaller muscles can come with or without a penis. -

Re: What do you think
03/29LOL! I am totally channeling my dearly departed ex-colleague/business partner/friend. Back in the early 1980s when we worked together as nurses in a hospital, he was always getting called to go to other floors to help transfer patients in/out of bed. I am a full foot shorter than him and was stronger and had better body mechanics, but no matter: they always wanted HIM.
Finally one night when yet another call came in, in his cattiest voice we heard him say into the phone, "What do you think, I use my penis to pick them up?!"

Re: What do you think
04/05EQUAL skill? The thing is a 90lb woman who trains will mostly have more skill than a 200lb bloke who trains just as much. -

Re: What do you think
04/06I get it, Ghostcat -- the woman has to get everything right in order to be effective at all. The stronger guy can muscle his way through a technique. We talk about that a lot in my dojo -- the fact that women, in a funny way, have a training advantage, because they can rarely force a technique. It means we have a steeper learning curve in the beginning, but then we often progress much more rapidly. -

Re: What do you think
04/07um, pretty much exactly. we come around in a circle again, just like aikido... -

Re: What do you think
02/08Look at Lennox Lewis, a super heavy weight who is by far one of the most technical and intelligent boxers ive ever seen in any weight class. You guys think that a 90lb woman would have a better chance at surpassing his skill?? -
-
Re: What do you think
02/08If you take weight classes into consideration, your question is completely pointless. It is possible that a 90 pound female aikido master could defend herself against a heavyweight boxer, but then again, even giving the greater muscle density, do you think a 90 lb guy culd beat a woman of the same size and skill as this Lewis? -
-
Re: What do you think
02/10my point is that he is one of the most skilled boxers ive ever seen. This was to go to the point that women have a trainning advantage because they cannot muscle through techniques as easily as males. I just wanted to know if you think that a woman would have a trainning advantage over Lennox Lewis in boxing or Fedor Emelianenko in sambo.
